DHUFC Under-10 Girls vs FC Chippenham 9 October 2004

Hope everyone enjoyed the match yesterday, it was an excellent result for the girls to beat FC Chippenham 5-1, and I think its fair to say we could have scored more. Nice also to see the goals being shared around with Elsie (2), Alison (2) and Hazel all contributing. All the girls played well and gave their best, especially in the second half when I thought we started to play some better football. Special mention to our two goalkeepers, Hannah and Sara who both proved reliable in goal. Katie H once again was very solid in defence and this week also improved her distribution. Sara had an excellent first half and Katie S was also very strong in defence and made some very strong, important tackles. Hannah took a little while to settle in an unfamiliar position (left back) in the 2nd half, but soon began to show some of the Hannah we knew from last season, I think more of a midfield role in future will work better. Debuts for India and Eleanor who showed great enthusiasm indicated that we also have strength in depth.

Things to work on include more talking on the pitch, and maybe less off it ;-) It never ceases to amaze me that when girls get onto a football pitch they seem to mysteriously lose the ability to talk. We also need to organise how we defend corners a bit better. The other area we need to work on is distributing the ball better once we have won a tackle.

Thanks to everyone for their help, especially Nick for refereeing, excellent job, even when you did celebrate one of Elsie's goals ;-) Sorry that I was unable to shout or even talk very much, I thought I had flu, but it would seem I had a bout of tonsillitis, which would explain my extremely sore throat, I probably shouldn't have been at the match, hopefully all should be well before next week.

Just to update everyone on the other results from the weekend:
Swindon Spitfires 0 Keynsham 3
Swindon Town 3 Swindon Badgers 1
